I was born in High Prairie Alberta on May 22 1950. I was taken home to our farm homestead by horse and wagon located 26 miles north of High prairie. The name of the area was called Leister. I lived the life of living off the land through trapping, hunting, harvesting wild plants, berries and a garden. My family raised a couple of cows for milk, horses for farming, chickens for eggs and meat, also pigs. I learned all the skills of farm life and Metis arts and crafts at a very young age.
I have lived in many areas of Alberta; I raised my son and daughter in Grand Cache, Alberta and two of my grandchildren on Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement where I have spent the last 48 years. I have learned and experienced many things. I have worked at various and interesting jobs. From driving Truck, operating equipment, farming and raising goats, sheep and alpacas. I spent about 30 years trapping and spent some time as a Big Game Guide. I spent 7 years as a transport driver for Family services taking childern to visit family members where I would also supervise the visit.
I am also a Metis Artisan who loves to teach and share my traditional artistic skills that I have learned throughout my life from indigenous people. Decorative arts and beading I learned from my mother and taking classes at Portage college. I have spent some time as a Headstart Teacher teaching art to various students in surrounding schools. I love horseback riding and raising horses on a farm in Buffalo Lake.
For the last 7 years I have spent my time at Metis Crossing as a Resident Elder and Knowledge Holder sharing my experiences of Metis culture and life with guests through Traditional Workshops, Traditional Stories and various other Authentic Metis Experiences. Today I spend my non-working time enjoying the company of my partner Jerry who is a deadly Bannock maker.
