Steve Francis is a Cree Indian from the Nekaneet First Nation part of Treaty No.4 (1874) located in southwest Saskatchewan in the Cypress Hills. He currently lives in Calgary, Alberta, in Treaty No. 7 territory.
Steve’s formal education includes a Political Science and Indian Studies degree from the University of Regina and a law degree from the University of Ottawa. Steve’s informal education includes his Cree teachings, principles and ceremonies that are actively practiced by his family and First Nation community.
Steve has worked for his own First Nation, the federal government in Ottawa, for TransCanada Pipelines Limited and Shell Canada in Calgary. Since 2018, Steve has been consulting on Indigenous Relations via 3 S Consulting Services Inc.
Steve and his spouse have a 23 year old son that is the first generation in their families not to have gone to an Indian Residential or Day School.
Steve strives to bridge the knowledge gap that often exists between non-Indigenous Interests (business and government) and Indigenous communities and businesses and has done so for about 35 years.
