Risa AtkinsonOwner, Brass Buffalo Trading Post

Risa Atkinson is a Cree-Métis fashion designer and entrepreneur from Longview, Alberta, and the founder of Brass Buffalo Trading Post (est. 2025). Her work is deeply rooted in family, cowboy culture, and the traditions passed down through generations, which first inspired her love of arts and sewing at a young age.

She studied Fine Arts at the University of Lethbridge and Fashion Design at Olds College. After stepping away to raise her children, Risa returned to design with renewed purpose—creating one-of-a-kind pieces that blend Indigenous roots with contemporary Western lifestyle. 2025 her designs were showcased in Rez in the City, Threads of Resilience, and Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week, to name a few.

Through Brass Buffalo Trading Post, she has created a space that brings together Indigenous community, visitor experiences, storytelling, and supporting authentic artisans.

Inspired by a lineage of land stewards, cowboys, and strong Indigenous family, Risa’s work reflects resilience, identity, and legacy. She continues to build her business with her family, while raising her children with the same strength, values, and connection to culture.
